I read an interesting article in today’s Times from Ali Campbell on election poster campaigns and was refreshingly surprised at his level of insight. Here’s a seasoned political communicator with a handle on two way comms’ I thought as I read his views on social networking and the power of digital conversation.

Sustainability
In 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development developed a definition of sustainability, which became known as the Brundtland definition:
"Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
To us, sustainable is economic, social and environmental. The source of this definition is unknown to us but we believe it encompasses the broad gamut which is the holistic issue of sustainability.
We operate our business activities in a way that enables all people to realise their potential and improve their quality of life while protecting and enhancing the earth’s natural capital.
We are therefore committed to continually improve the integration of sustainability into our working environment and business processes. Our aim is to play a proactive role in contributing to achieving sustainability where we have influence.
What does this actually mean?
Travelling via public transport is encouraged and, wherever possible, we walk to meetings within Birmingham city centre. We try to keep travel to a minimum while maintaining close communication with all our clients through regular teleconferences.
Recycling paper, plastics and cans from the office. We are members of Paperchasers - ethical office recycling. As a result, a tree has been planted in the Forest of Marston Vale to recognise our contribution to recycling.
Recycling printer cartridges and all other IT consumables wherever possible.
Minimising energy consumption through switching heaters off overnight (we all sit here in gloves and scarves first thing in the morning in winter!) and switching off all IT equipment when not in use.
Contributing to the local community through work with the Jewellery Quarter Association, Acorns Business Club, Education Business Partnership, enterprise days with Old Swinford Hospital School, West Midlands Police and the Birmingham Future Community Development Committee.
