Birmingham-based PR consultancy Kinetic Communications was a double winner at the 2008 CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) Midlands PRide Awards.

As well as scooping the Gold Award for Best Integrated Campaign, Kinetic also made the shortlist for the region’s Outstanding Small Consultancy Award.

The PRide Awards recognise public relations success and achievement in the regions and across sectors. This year’s glamorous ceremony for the Midlands region took place at Birmingham University’s Great Hall last Thursday (23 October).

Angela Podmore, managing director at Kinetic, said: “The award was won on the back of our two-year campaign in support of Halesowen’s Cornbow – an 18-month development where we’ve had to keep its heart beating as it undergoes open heart surgery.

“We’re particularly chuffed because the competition was really hot. The CIPR recognises this as one of the toughest award categories and it’s the first time we’ve entered these awards.

“We’d like to thank Vale Retail for the opportunity. They not only gave us the campaign remit but also the budget and the all-important authority to act on their behalf regarding all communication matters.

“It’s given us the headroom needed to pull lots of different parties together and get them all facing in the same direction. As such, Vale has had a fantastic return on its investment – by integrating all communications, retailers have managed to trade throughout the redevelopment and the new anchor, Asda, will benefit from a positive environment from day one.

David Humphrys, director of Red Letter Design, who worked with Kinetic on all the ‘above the line aspects’ of the Cornbow campaign, said: “We are able to work well with Kinetic as we share the same values and goals and constantly communicate with the client and each other.”

Claire Barker, co-director at Kinetic said: “We’re also proud to have made the shortlist for the Outstanding Small Consultancy Award. We’re about to enter our fifth year of trading and this is recognition for the people who’ve played their part in guaranteeing results for our clients over the last half decade.”

Melissa Page, chair of CIPR Midlands, said: “To win a CIPR Award is a tremendous achievement. This year’s winners really do have something to shout about, having faced the highest number of entries and stiffest competition ever.

“A CIPR PRide Award is a hallmark of professionalism and success, marking the best in our profession out from the crowd.”
