What Winston understood
What held Winston Churchill together is a mystery but he is certainly cited when we're counselling our clients through sensitive issues.

He truly understood the power of 'telling it like it is'.

He front-footed issues which would make the hard-hearted tremble. But his heart was Winston's strength. He communicated at an emotional level, painted pictures and captured the hearts of his audience.

That builds trust. The strength of character to deliver the bad news as well as the good.

Barack Obama knows it too.

The way he ran his campaign - not taking a cent from the public purse – a hitherto unknown way of operating. Focusing on one clear message 'it's time for change'. Emails out to all, signed 'Barack'.

Authenticity is power to impress.

On a smaller scale, Dermott Finch, Centre of Cities has it too. Recently he addressed Birmingham Forward and shot from the hip re: Birmingham needs to focus on housing, transport and employment issues with a brief aside to leadership.

One of our team lunched with Norman Price OBE (Birmingham science city) the other day and his Black Country roots were evident with his no nonsense approach to language; he talked of injecting 'oooooomph' into technology transfer - an ostensibly dry subject.

What we all connect with is the TRUTH. We all have a right to hear and speak it. When you focus on that, your body language will reflect that you're the genuine article. You will relax and, from that body posture, you will operate at your true potential – full-on energy with your creativity really flowing.

Needless to say what happens when you're caught on the back foot!
